Dinghy Sailing Courses - International experience
Theewater Sailing Academy provides adult & youth sailing courses. The vision of International yachtsman Jon Galbraith. When teaching youths, Theewater Sailing Academy's goal is not only to teach sailing, but to broaden their young sailors outlook & to encourage integration with young sailors Internationally. When teaching adults, apart from the sailing, the TSA team focus on teamwork and communication.
This is achieved through both theoretical & practical sail training in the Western Cape & by promoting International Sailing Events. TSA is currently investigating the option of inviting a small team from Macau.
Theewater Sailing Academy is lead by both Jon Galbraith and Neil Ashton.
Jon, an RYA Yachtmaster with over 85 000 logged nautical miles, has had an International sailing career, including a Cape to Rio win in 2000, skippering his own boat Highnoon and a Fastnet (UK) win in 2001, skippering Imperator. With a passion for youth sail training, he has;
- Jon started the Coca-Cola sponsored Development Sailing Academy at Algoa Bay Yacht Club in 1998 and was awarded the 'Go Getters' trophy for his efforts.
- In 2001, Jon was employed as management, at the RYA's Hamble School of Yachting (UK).
- From 2007 to 2012, whilst living in Macau, he founded and ran the Macau Youth Sailing Academy (Pty) Ltd.
- In conjunction with Neil, launched Theewater Sailing Academy in January 2013
Neil is a provincial sportsman and coach with forty years of dinghy and keelboat sailing experience. SAS Senior Instructor.
It has always been their ambition to develop a vibrant Sailing Academy at home, in the Western Cape. Under the auspices of the Theewater Sports Club, Jon, Neil and their enthusiastic team of sailing coaches provide various sailing courses to both adults and youths.
In April and October 2014 the Theewater Sailing Academy coaches all attended the SAS Safety boat and SAS Level One & Level 2 coaches course. The Sailing Academy has received full ISAF and SAS accreditation.
